Social Media .. Dr. Babiker Abdallah Mohamed Ali

Social media has become a double-edged weapon. On one hand, it has brought people closer together, accelerated the exchange of knowledge, and opened spaces for free expression. On the other hand, for many people it has become a fertile environment for lies, misinformation, and the manufacturing of illusion.
Today, false news can spread within minutes—often faster than the truth—because emotion and sensationalism attract people more than verification and reflection. At times, these platforms are used to manipulate public opinion, defame individuals, create false heroes, or spread fear and hatred, to the point that some people now live inside a “virtual reality” shaped more by algorithms than by facts.
Yet the problem is not only in the medium itself, but in the human being who uses it.
Some use it as a tool for knowledge, awareness, and constructive engagement, while others turn it into a platform for rumors, discord, and distortion.
The Holy Qur’an warned about the danger of spreading information without verification:
“O you who believe, if a wicked person comes to you with news, verify it…”
— Surah Al-Hujurat
In the age of digital media, the principle of “verify the information” has become a civilizational and ethical rule before it is merely a religious one.
Therefore, many social media platforms today can be described as:
A battlefield for minds,
A vast marketplace containing both true and false information,
And a mirror reflecting the morals of societies and the level of their awareness.
Despite the spread of lies, the truth remains stronger in the long run, because falsehood always needs noise and propaganda to survive, whereas truth proves itself over time.
We will continue in the next post about the platform of the “great liar,” [[ Donald Trump ]], for whom technology created a dedicated platform called [[ Truth ]] — “Truth Social” — through which he broadcasts his truths / falsehoods to presidents and world leaders alike.
